When to call 111

You should call 111 when:

· you think you need to go to A&E or to another NHS urgent care service

· your GP surgery is closed and you need healthcare advice

· you don’t know who to call for medical help.

When to call 999

Call 999 for life threatening emergencies such as:

· Major accident or trauma

· Severe breathlessness

· Severe bleeding

· Loss of consciousness

· Severe chest pain.

The surgeries are closed weekdays after 18.00 and during bank holidays and weekends. If you have an urgent health problem which cannot wait until your GP practice is open, or you need health information outside of normal surgery hours, the best way to access treatment is to call NHS 111.

When calling NHS 111 you will be asked questions and assessed by a fully trained call adviser who will give advice and direct you to the local service that can help you best.

Call advisers are supported by clinicians who are on hand to assess caller’s needs and ensure you receive the right service as quickly as possible
